Pascale Bird

Director

Pascale Bird is the executive director of LRI. She has over fourteen years’ experience working in the climate arena, attending COPs and subsidiary meetings and delivering training sessions on the UNFCCC regime and its relevance for developing countries, both in the UK and abroad, for a wide range of audiences.

She is a qualified solicitor and holds an LLM in International Business Law and an MA in Geopolitics, Territory and Security. Before joining LRI, she worked as an associate and professional support lawyer in the EU and Competition department of Simmons & Simmons. She also volunteered for Oxfam, project managing a book on climate change liability. She is a trustee of another charity, Lawyers Against Poverty. 

Olivia Tattarletti

Senior Legal Officer

Olivia Tattarletti is a senior legal officer at LRI. She has been involved in the international climate change negotiations for over 10 years.

Within LRI, Olivia (who is currently on maternity leave) coordinates LRI’s pro bono network of legal experts, the production of legal advice from the network, contributes to developing LRI’s knowledge products/resources and delivers capacity building training. She is fluent in five languages, among which French and Spanish – which are key to the services the organisation provides.

Before joining LRI, she trained and qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales – first working in the Dispute Resolution department of the law firm Simmons & Simmons and then, at the law firm Birnberg Peirce, representing bereaved and survivors at the Grenfell Tower Inquiry. Olivia holds a Master’s in Business Administration.

Monserrat Madariaga

Senior Legal Officer

Monserrat Madariaga is senior legal officer at LRI, where she leads the organisation’s research initiatives, knowledge products, and oversees the legal training programme. She also supports capacity-building efforts for both lawyers and non-lawyers. 

Monserrat has been supporting developing countries in international climate negotiations and in the design and implementation of domestic climate laws and policies since 2017. A qualified Chilean lawyer, she previously worked in both the private and public sectors before moving to the UK to pursue an LLM in Environmental Law and Policy (2017) and later a PhD focused on the international climate negotiations (2021–2024), both at University College London (UCL). She remains affiliated with UCL as a guest lecturer. 

Monserrat’s research and professional interests centre on climate justice, particularly within the context of the UNFCCC COP process and the structural inequalities between countries and communities in legal responses to climate change. She is fluent in Spanish and English, and works closely with partners and delegates from Latin America, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. 

Harrison Cox

Legal Officer

Harrison Cox is a legal officer at Legal Response International, where he contributes to the organisation’s work by providing legal and technical support.

Fluent in both French and English, Harrison holds an LLB in Law with French Law from University College London (UCL), a ‘Licence en Droit Public’ from Université Paris Panthéon-Assas and a Diplôme Universitaire in Environmental Law from the University of Bordeaux, with a particular focus on public participation in environmental governance.

During his time at LRI, Harrison has contributed to many of LRI’s briefing papers, Paris Agreement A to Z app, COP Outcomes publication and is particularly interested in the impact of climate injustice in international climate conferences. He also supports the development of the volunteer base at LRI and coordinates the support received from volunteers. 

Mara Wendebourg

Legal Officer

Mara Wendebourg is a legal officer at LRI. She obtained her PhD in public international law at King’s College London in 2024, specialising in international environmental law, the law of the sea and institutional law. Mara is also a research fellow at Utrecht University and has been invited to present her research on marine geoengineering governance, scientific advisory bodies and sea level rise at several conferences 

Mara has an LLM in public international law from Utrecht University and an MSc in marine systems and policies from the University of Edinburgh. Prior to pursuing her PhD, Mara was an intern at the International Seabed Authority and a blue book trainee at the European Commission.

She is fluent in French, English and German.

Rohan Barad

Communications Officer

Rohan Barad contributes to LRI’s communications, branding and fundraising efforts. He is a policy and communications professional with expertise in policy research, communications and strategy.

He holds a MSc in Security Studies from UCL and previously served as a Program Manager (Policy) at Office of Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. 

Sarah Woods

Communications Consultant

Sarah Woods is a communications consultant with over 25 years of experience in reputation management and strategic messaging. She was Director of Communications at The Allen-Stevenson School in New York City, where she led communications strategy and major initiatives including a strategic plan rollout and website redesign. In Hong Kong, she served as an Executive Director at Forrest International Ltd., advising CEOs on corporate reputation before its acquisition by Golin/Harris. Sarah began her career in London’s financial sector and brings a global perspective shaped by her work across New York, Hong Kong, and London.

Martina Legerer

Accountant consultant

Martina Legerer is an accountant with over 20 years’ experience in the finance sector. She is working at Accounting Solutions for Charities providing outsourced financial services to LRI.
