LRI maintains a free, publicly accessible database of its legal resources. While the database does not replace our legal advisory service, it acts as a repository of LRI resources on a wide range of climate law issues.

It contains:

  • Legal advice: LRI’s legal advice provides tailored analysis on specific legal questions that arise in the context of the international climate negotiations or the domestic implementation of the climate treaties. It is designed to assist negotiators, policymakers and stakeholders in navigating complex legal issues and identifying practical options. All advice is anonymised and reflects the legal expert’s view, not the official position of LRI.
  • Briefing papers and explainers: LRI’s briefing papers and explainers provide timely, clear and accessible guidance on complex legal and policy issues related to climate change. They break down technical concepts into practical insights, helping policymakers, negotiators and stakeholders understand key topics and their implications for international, regional and national climate law.
  • Training materials: LRI’s training materials support capacity-building efforts to engage confidently in international negotiations and implement climate laws domestically. These resources include course notes, presentation slides, and other practical tools on key topics of the negotiations, including governance and procedure, negotiations terminology, and on aspects more relevant to domestic implementation, such as which areas of the Paris Agreement have relevance for domestic frameworks on climate change.
  • Webinars: LRI’s webinars are recorded presentations covering a range of topics, relevant to the international climate negotiations, the domestic implementation of the climate treaties, or both.
  • Research memos: LRI’s research memos present factual information that address specific questions arising in the context of the international climate negotiations and/or the domestic implementation the climate treaties. They are practical tools, and unlike the legal advice that LRI publishes, do not offer a legal analysis.
  • Negotiations summaries: LRI’s negotiations summaries are reports on outcomes from subsidiary bodies’ and governing bodies’ meetings. They include a brief introduction to key topics discussed during the negotiations, the main sticking points and the outcomes.
  • Other publications.

Strengthening Legal Clarity

Ambrosio Yobánolo del Real, AILAC and G77 & China Lead Technology Negotiator, Chile

Since 2015, Ambrosio Yobánolo del Real has represented Chile, AILAC and the G77 & China in complex climate negotiations, often facing counterparts supported by large legal teams. To bridge this gap, Ambrosio partnered with LRI, receiving expert advice on treaty provisions, UNFCCC rules, and financial mechanisms such as the Adaptation Fund and Green Climate Fund. LRI also provided tailored capacity building, strengthening non-native English speakers’ command of legal terminology and drafting skills for negotiation texts.

With this support, Chile and its allies advanced clearer, legally sound positions and were empowered to engage more confidently in multilateral discussions. Ambrosio notes that LRI helped level the playing field, linking technology issues more effectively to climate finance debates and demonstrating the vital role of legal partnerships in shaping international climate outcomes.
